GEH8 2030 – Feasibility Study for GEH8
With funding from the Sociocultural Fund, we are currently developing a comprehensive concept for the long-term future of GEH8 in terms of content and space. The central question is: How can GEH8 continue to develop – as a sociocultural venue, as a platform for art and discourse, as part of the neighborhood?
The main topics are:
– Expansion and diversification of our target groups
– Development of new formats and content
– Spatial perspectives for buildings and grounds
– Ecological sustainability as a cross-cutting issue
In March 2025, we visited ufaFabrik Berlin, a pioneering project for ecological urban development and sociocultural practice, to gain inspiration and exchange experiences. We also visited ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics. The ideas we gained there are directly incorporated into our conceptual considerations.
In a next step, we entered into a joint development process with the architectural firm Raum und Bau (Dresden). The goal is to design concrete paths and scenarios for the structural future of GEH8. We are supported in this by architects Gudrun Deppe and Luzie Dörfelt, who bring a wealth of experience in participatory, co-productive, and process-oriented planning approaches.
Our goal: to harmonize ecological responsibility, social participation, and cultural use—not as opposites, but as mutually reinforcing elements.
In late summer, we entered the participatory phase of the GEH8 future concept. To this end, we invited everyone to take part in an online survey in August and to a participatory workshop with a neighborhood coffee party in September. We are very pleased with the response so far and would like to thank everyone who took part. Over the winter, we will evaluate all the results and incorporate them into our concept, which we will present to you in 2026.
