Following the strong response in previous years, Susanne Engelhardt (geh8 Kunstraum und Ateliers e. V.) is once again inviting visitors to an exhibition at geh8 from May 6 to 22, 2011, which brings together a wide variety of positions in contemporary ceramics. This year’s show in the series “Dauerbrenner” is entitled “Freispiel”. The focus is on young ceramic artists from Halle – a place that, thanks to the Burg Giebichenstein Academy of Art and the Free Ceramics program based there, has repeatedly produced independent and stubborn artists who playfully defy seemingly eternally cemented standards.

Alexander Schellbach’s work complex “Blooming Landscapes,” for example, refers to the industrial legacies of the former GDR. In his sculptures and drawings, he attempts to initiate a new approach to the topos of industrial ruin by combining authentic and fictional elements – an approach that comes into its own particularly well in the surroundings of the former geh8 railroad repair plant.

The following artists are represented with no less exciting works: Kordula Kuppe, Juliane Herden, Katrin Kreiser, Ina Jänicke, Johannes Nagel and curator Susanne Engelhardt (Dresden).
