Ausstellungsführung + Künstlergespräch // “We’re all in this together! Wir sitzen alle im selben Boot.” mit Edgar Leciejewski

The GEH8 group exhibition 2025 is dedicated to the current discourse on social cohesion and the perceived division in society. At a time when social, political and economic differences are becoming increasingly visible and more intensively discussed, the art and cultural center is focusing on the search for community in a society that is more characterized by diversity and individualism than ever before. The annual theme of GEH8 is intended to create a space that encourages visitors to reflect on their own role and responsibility as part of a community and the potential of images and films to create identity and community.

One part of the group exhibition is the artist Edgar Leciejweski, who would like to talk about his work “BREATHE IN / BREATHE OUT” and his work as an artist. He examines the various social and scientific uses of photography. It is an experimental-analytical attempt to elicit contemporary relevant questions from the medium of photography. In addition to content-related themes and reflecting on his own working methods and tools, he is interested in incorporating the dimension of time into his photographic work. His works are storehouses or pantries of time that make it possible to slow down the act of seeing and experiencing.

With his formidable leporello of 72 photographs and the evocative title “BREATHE IN / BREATHE OUT”, Leciejewski demonstrates that public kissing has long been part of the universal commentary of the political and social elites. Already an experienced and intelligent image catcher, the artist has set out on a hunt for images of public kisses on the digital web and has landed many hits in the visual emergence of the past 20 years. Although he restricts himself to the register of greeting kisses, the entire spectrum of the possible kissing program is revealed under the surface, as it were. Despite the factual limitation, Leciejewski’s amusing panorama unfolds an abundance of different forms of kisses as well as a fan
forms of kissing and a range of the most astonishing reactions to them.
