Conversation over bread and dips with Paul Elsner (visual artist), Cindy Hammer (choreographer) & Prof. Olaf Katzer (musician) on group work and self-organization.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We bring the bread. You make your own dips! And to make sure you don’t get bored while chopping, we’ll put three experts from the independent scene at your side for a chat – for questions about working in open or fixed artist groups: Why being a solo artist is often less fun. How an artists’ group copes with the corners, quirks and edges of its members and masters crises. What a functioning artist collective needs in order to make art together as equals and to make a living.<\/p>\n

Artists from the fields of visual arts, performing arts and music, who work successfully in different group constellations, talk about their experiences and give you tips:<\/p>\n

Paul Elsner<\/strong> studied architecture in Dresden and Liverpool, worked as a city planner for the city of Dresden and as a research assistant at the architecture faculty of the TU Dresden. Since 2003 he has turned to the visual arts: founding Lumopol – platform for (light) artistic interventions in urban space. This was followed in 2007 by the founding of GEH8 Kunstraum und Ateliers – studio community and project space for contemporary art. Since then numerous exhibitions and projects at home and abroad as visual artist, curator and organizer. Scholarship holder of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony in the Baumwollspinnerei Leipzig in 2010. In 2011 he was a scholarship holder of the Free State of Saxony in Columbus\/Ohio and in 2012 guest at the Goethe Institute Rotterdam as part of the artist exchange between Dresden and Rotterdam. Paul Elsner is the director of the GEH8 KUNST RAUM ATELIERS in Dresden-Pieschen.<\/p>\n

Cindy Hammer<\/strong> began studying dance at the Palucca University of Dance in Dresden in 2000, graduating in 2010 with a diploma. In 2009 she received the Arnhold-Esther-Seligmann Scholarship, which took her to the American Dance Festival in Durham, North Carolina. In 2010, she co-founded the artist collective Go Plastic with musician Siggy Blooms, which spawned stage performances, club appearances, and short films. In 2012, she developed the Go Plastic collective into the dance theater group Go Plastic Dance Theatre. She also works in cooperation with HELLERAU – European Center for the Arts Dresden, LOFFT Leipzig, projekttheater Dresden, TENZA-Schmiede, Palucca University of Dance Dresden. She is a member of TanzNetzDresden. Cindy has performed as a dancer and with her own pieces in cities such as New York City, Montreal, Paris, Amsterdam, Skopje, Berlin, Stuttgart, Bielefeld, Leipzig and Dresden.<\/p>\n

Prof. Olaf Katzer<\/strong> studied music and psychology in Munich, Weimar and Dresden. In 2007, while still a student, he founded the ensemble AUDITIVVOKAL DRESDEN, which he has since directed artistically and made known beyond the borders of Germany. Over 60 premieres, guest performances at numerous festivals and radio recordings document his commitment to contemporary vocal music. In a transdisciplinary exchange with singers, instrumentalists, dancers, composers, painters, directors and scientists, he develops contemporary ensemble art for the 21st century in sustained and unconventional programming.<\/p>\n

Brot_Lose_Kunst is a cooperative event with the Service Agency FREIE SZENE, the Dresden University of Fine Arts and the Dresden University of Music as well as the Filmverband Sachsen e.V..
