Exhibition. Urban planning ideas for urban production, common good and culture in Pieschen.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What is meant by urban development oriented towards the common good and what does this mean for urban planning? What spaces does local, urban production need as an alternative to global mass production? What mix of uses will be possible and necessary as the worlds of work and production change?<\/p>\n

At the invitation of GEH8, a total of 25 students from the TU Dresden sought answers to these questions in the past summer semester of 2020, as part of the urban design studio MADE IN PIESCHEN.<\/p>\n

One of the last undeveloped development areas in Dresden is located between the Dresden-Pieschen S-Bahn stop and Harkortstra\u00dfe. The elongated, approximately 7.5 ha large former marshalling yard is bordered on two sides by railroad lines and is only directly perceptible in the urban context in a few places.<\/p>\n

The high potential of the island-like site has long been the focus of attention of various stakeholders from the surrounding area. From their point of view, the area offers a lot of space for a community-oriented urban development – as an urban mix of creative quarter, sports park, green space and place for new forms of production.<\/p>\n

In addition to a high demand for workspaces, workshops and studios for art and culture professionals from GEH8 and Zentralwerk, the neighboring sports club Motor Mickten also already has concrete ideas for expanding its sports areas and offerings for mass sports.<\/p>\n

The Pieschen district needs significantly more public green and open spaces that connect urban areas.<\/p>\n

In addition, the area is ideally suited as an experimental field for new commercial and production areas, for urban manufactories and Industry 4.0.<\/p>\n

The exhibition shows 14 urban planning designs that were worked on in groups or as independent diploma theses. The works show a wide range of possibilities that the place holds for a sustainable society.<\/p>\n
