International exchange project and group exhibition of artists from Austria and Germany as guests at GEH8 Kunstraum<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

As part of a two-year interdisciplinary artistic exchange project, six artists from Linz and Dresden explored the urban spaces of the two cities. In the process, they developed artistic works that focus on the relationship between performative action and image creation, as well as the role of photography and video for documentary purposes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

According to Hito Steyerl, documentary forms in the art world mainly take on two opposing functions. The most widespread form is art documentation, in which performances or interventions are depicted. This mainly represents an authenticity strategy that is supposed to guarantee the claim of artistic works to contact with an auratizing field of the social or political. In contrast, according to Steyerl, there is another form of documentary that perceives its own means as socially constructed epistemological tools and thus seeks to change the “politics of truth.” So what role does the photographic currently play for artists in the realization of performances and vice versa?<\/p>\n

The exhibition shows the works created in both cities by the artists Elisa Andessner (Linz), Rainer N\u00f6bauer-Kammerer (Linz), Antje Seeger (Dresden), Diego Vivanco (Dresden and Leipzig), Karen Weinert (Dresden).<\/p>\n

Heidi Morgenstern (Dresden), Oscar HR (Dresden), Ruppe Koselleck (M\u00fcnster) were invited as guests of the exhibition.<\/p>\n

In an accompanying symposium on August 19, 2017 consisting of lectures and screenings, further questions about the evidential value of photographic images and videos will be discussed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
