What leads to the desire to meet? The possible habitability of alien planets? The search for water on Mars…? ???<\/p>\n

Anyway, in late spring 2011 CARS received a peaceful visit from the geh8.<\/p>\n

(HITCH HIKE)… mission successfully accomplished?<\/p>\n

Isn’t it time for another exchange mission?<\/p>\n

It’s a world of abbreviations – of acronyms. geh8. LOL. MARS & CARS. MARS here doesn’t stand for the planet, but for Milan Artist Run Space and CARS for Cusio Artist Residnecy Space. The acronyms stand for two independent and non-profit art associations founded between 2008 and 09 in Lombardy and Piedmont, representing a new level of self-organization of art spaces in Italy. MARS is an exhibition space with a hectic schedule and about 25 exhibitions a year. CARS is transformed into an artist “residency” that offers studio space as well as an exhibition venue to artists. With its flexible structure, CARS has already facilitated unusual projects for a variety of artists. MARS was founded in Milan by Lorenza Boisi. The CARS initiative grew out of a collaboration between Boisi and Andrea Ruschetti in Omegna (the “C” in CARS, “Cusio” here stands for the region). Both initiatives stand for their program in collaboration with a variety of museum people, curators and artists with the intention of establishing an artistic representation practice alongside the system determined by the art market, and follow their vision with exhibitions, conferences, lectures and workshops. Survival in times of crisis is achieved through a variety of activities, fundraising, private investors, and the support of La Nuova Faro (Omegna) and banks such as San Paolo and Fondazione Cariplo.<\/p>\n

How did geh8 and MARS meet and continue to meet?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2011, eight German artists came together with eight Italian artists in Omegna on Lago d’Orta for the workshop “Hitch Hike” – a German idea with Italian modulation. The project, as well as the exhibition that followed, was a success.<\/p>\n

With MARS MISSION now 12 artists from Italy come to the geh8 Kunstraum in Dresden. They come with the spaceships of the low-cost airlines, art in their luggage, to indulge in their perspective on art in the hall of geh8. This is the mission. We are coming…<\/p>\n

MARS MISSION Mars\/Cars\/Geh8 Sol(4)-La(4)-Fa(4)-Fa(3)-Do(4)[6] HELLO – Non tecnicamente una scala pentatonica\u2026 le note sono solo quattro. A prima letta, nulla di fatto, ma questa sequenza di cinque note, quattro di cui due divise da un\u2019ottava: vi \u00e8 famigliare. Pesateci. Che cosa determina il desiderio di incontro? La ricerca dell\u2019abitabilit\u00e0 planetaria? Trovare acqua su Marte\u2026 Nella tarda primavera del 2011 CARS riceve in pace i Visitatori di Ghe8- Mission Accomplished. \u00c8 il momento per una missione di scambio- Mars Mission\u2026 comincia. \u00c8 un tempo di acronimi. MARS e CARS non si sottraggono- Milan Artist Run Space e Cusio Art Residency Space, sono nati rispettivamente nel 2008 e 2009. Enti a scopo non lucrativo e del tutto indipendenti, Mars e Cars, rispettivamente in Lombardia e Piemonte, rappresentano una nuova frontiera della gestione autarchica.<\/span><\/p>\n

MARS uno spazio espositivo con un frenetico calendario di almeno 25 mostre annuali e CARS una residenza per artisti dalla struttura mobile che ha ospitato un numero di artisti inconsueto rispetto alla brevit\u00e0 della sua storia. MARS fondato da Lorenza Boisi e CARS dalla medesima ad Andrea Ruschetti, hanno visto la collaborazione di un numero, ad oggi, crescente di collaboratori in vesti direzionali, curatoriali, amministrative. MARS e CARS offrono una visione \u201ctutta artistica\u201d della contemporaneit\u00e0 italiana, parallela alle logiche consuete del sistema dell\u2019arte ufficiale con mostre, incontri, lecture, workshop e workshop internazionali. Sopravvivendo, anche in tempi di crisi stringente, con le pi\u00f9 disparate attivit\u00e0 di fund raising e tramite finanziamenti privati ed il sostegno di un mecenate d\u2019impresa (La Nuova Faro, San Paolo e Fondazione Cariplo). Come Mars\/Cars incontrano Ghe8?<\/span><\/p>\n

Nel 2011 una ventina di artisti di MARS e di Ghe8, ospitati dall\u2019articolata struttura di CARS si incontrano per lavorare insieme ad un bizzarro progetto di workshop collaborativo- Hitch Hike, idea tedesca con modulazione italiana. La mostra, l\u2019esperienza, sono un successo. La missione di contatto tra \u201cartisti visitatori\u201d ed autoctoni \u00e8 compiuta con soddisfazione. Con MARS MISSION una dozzina di artisti di MARS e CARS raggiungono Ghe8, arrivando con un volo low cost anzich\u00e9 una navicella spaziale, portando con s\u00e9 la compressione di una generazione artistica eclettica e difficilmente denominabile, tutta condensata in un trolley\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Trovare una specie consimile, amica, un pianeta di abitabilit\u00e0 certa quale Ghe8 questa \u00e8 la nostra Missione.<\/span><\/p>\n
