Tuesday, July 8th, 7 pm – Artist talk – Doris Denekamp, Rotterdam (NL)<\/h1>\n

From May till July the Rotterdam artist Doris Denekamp works on a new project during her residency at Geh8 in Dresden. This project – with the working title I was , I am and I shall be! – Takes the herbarium of Rosa Luxemburg as a starting point. The German politician and revolutionary collected and studied wild plants between 1913 and 1918. During this period she was frequently imprisoned in Poland and Germany, because her socialist ideals were seen as subversive. Doris Denekamp is fascinated by the
\nseemingly unbridgeable gap between being a prisoner and gathering wild plants. She will, on the basis of Luxemburg’s many letters and writings, study the relation between Rosa Luxemburg’s observations of her immediate natural environment and her revolutionary ideas.<\/p>\n

Doris Denekamp (1984) obtained a master’s degree at the Dutch Art Institute in 2011. Since then she is based in Rotterdam, where she founded the collective *informal strategies*, together with artist Geert van Mil. In her work she is looking for ways to subvert the all-encompassing logic of the market in our contemporary society. Many of her projects are aimed towards self-education and the construction of alternative historical narratives. Her work has been shown during exhibitions in the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, Casco – Office for Art, Design and Theory in Utrecht, Iaspis in Stockholm and Metamatic:TAF in Athens .<\/p>\n
